Jeff Kaplan, the man many consider to be synonymous with the Overwatch brand, is leaving Blizzard after serving roughly 19 years with the company.
The announcement came by way of a letter published on Blizzard's website earlier today, with Kaplan expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play an integral role in the creation of Overwatch.
"it was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience." Kaplan writes, "i want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. but i want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me. "
Replacing Kaplan is another longtime Blizzardian, a one Aaron Keller, who will be taking over the role of game director.
There's currently no indication as to what Kaplan's next move will be, but considering his resume, it's likely he won't have much difficulty finding a new gig if he hasn't already.
